The Renaissance Period in Europe began in Italy during the 1400's with great artists such as Leonardo DaVince and Michelangelo, and was in full force by the middle of the 16th century. The discovery of a new world and newfound religious tolerance opened the floodgates for uninhibited creativity. No dreams were too large as art, literature, and the sciences were inundated with new ideas. Wealth also abounded as trade with foreign countries exploded. It wasn't until the Stuart Era (1603-1714) that unrest and political upheaval again prevailed as Catholics and Protestants struggled within England's borders. Romance authors have long found this time period an exciting backdrop for creating intriguing plots for their novels.
